You Never Know What You’re Gonna Find…

I’ve been sitting on this for a few weeks for the simple reason that it took me that long to formulate how I was going to relate this to the good people of Montgomery County.

First and foremost, in the interest of full disclosure, the following actually happened on an excursion with a buyer into Lehigh County.  We were talking a first look at a rehab project on the outskirts of Allentown.  Heading into the showing, we were aware of the pipe that had burst over the winter and the extensive damage caused to the kitchen as a result.  Everything would have to be replaced, and the smell of mold was unmistakable.  Really, it was a shame what had happened, since I had also been informed by the listing agent that the home had once upon a time been owned by the local sheriff.

So imagine our surprise when we found the handcuff on the right sitting just outside the front door.

Now, the sheriff was not the most recent owner of the property.  Others had come and gone in the interim.  After the massive damage from the previous winter, an extensive amount of trash and other debris had been removed from the property since being listed for sale.  Yet somehow, this solitary piece of the property’s history remained.

I’m sure that as my career progresses, I will continue to be amazed at the things that I will find that have been left behind and forgotten.  For now, I will keep this as a memento of the first crazy thing that I have come across in my real estate travels.  May there be many more.
